"You Are a Grace!"

I decided to take the quiz that ClassicFilmFan had on her site. I'm excited that I got Grace! Also, my personality does fit the majority of the points listed below. That was fun! I'd be mad if I got someone that I don't know much about.

You Are a Grace!

You are a Grace -- "I need to understand the world."

Graces have a need for knowledge and are introverted, curious, analytical, and insightful.

How to Get Along with Me
  • * Be independent, not clingy
  • * Speak in a straightforward and brief manner
  • * I need time alone to process my feelings and thoughts
  • * Remember that If I seem aloof, distant, or arrogant, it may be that I am feeling uncomfortable
  • * Make me feel welcome, but not too intensely, or I might doubt your sincerity
  • * If I become irritated when I have to repeat things, it may be because it was such an effort to get my thoughts out in the first place
  • * don't come on like a bulldozer
  • * Help me to avoid my pet peeves: big parties, other people's loud music, overdone emotions, and intrusions on my privacy
What I Like About Being a Grace
* standing back and viewing life objectively
* coming to a thorough understanding; perceiving causes and effects
* my sense of integrity: doing what I think is right and not being influenced by social pressure
* not being caught up in material possessions and status
* being calm in a crisis
What's Hard About Being a Grace
  • * being slow to put my knowledge and insights out in the world
  • * feeling bad when I act defensive or like a know-it-all
  • * being pressured to be with people when I don't want to be
  • * watching others with better social skills, but less intelligence or technical skill, do better professionally
Graces as Children Often
  • * spend a lot of time alone reading, making collections, and so on
  • * have a few special friends rather than many
  • * are very bright and curious and do well in school
  • * have independent minds and often question their parents and teachers
  • * watch events from a detached point of view, gathering information
  • * assume a poker face in order not to look afraid
  • * are sensitive; avoid interpersonal conflict
  • * feel intruded upon and controlled and/or ignored and neglected
Graces as Parents
  • * are often kind, perceptive, and devoted
  • * are sometimes authoritarian and demanding
  • * may expect more intellectual achievement than is developmentally appropriate
  • * may be intolerant of their children expressing strong emotions

Random Rant: The Catastrophic Downward Spiral of TV

So, I was watching and searching through youtube videos and I stumbled across some old favorite Original Disney Movies and Nickelodeon shows. Besides making me nostalgic, it made me think that TV has really gone downhill. Ok, I may have been thinking this for a while, not just about Disney and Nickelodeon, but with TV in general. I do enjoy watching '30 Rock' and 'True Blood.' However, the majority of shows are not up to par with shows in the past 20 years, such as 'Seinfeld' or 'Friends.' I'm not going to go back any further in the time duration due to the fact that I wasn't alive then and it's not fair to include shows like 'I Love Lucy' and 'The Munsters' when I obviously couldn't have watched them when they first aired on TV.

The majority of reality shows and new game show creations are destroying TV and minds! I want good TV back! If they cannot come up with new and clever ideas for shows, then they should at least give us back more of the old! True, there are some channels that show 'Seinfeld,' 'Sex and the City,' 'Friends,' classic cartoons, and classic TV shows. However, I'd like more channels dedicated to this! I'd love to have a channel dedicated to more classic TV shows, like 'I Love Lucy' and 'The Munsters.' They aren't shown as regularly on the present classic TV channels as they should be!

I'd even like a channel dedicated to good Disney, the old one that showed 'Boy Meets World,' 'Smart Guy,' Original Disney Movies, and classic Disney movies. When I say Original Disney Movies, I mean movies made especially for the Disney channel or random movies, which includes: 'Wish Upon a Star,' 'Don't Look Under the Bed,' 'Horse Sense,' 'Zenon,' 'Johnny Tsunami,' 'Smart House,' 'Susie Q,' 'Genius,' 'The Thirteenth Year,' I obviously could go on all day with more. Classic Disney movies, of course, would include the classic feature length animated films and the live action ones. It should be a requirement to show these on the Disney Channel!!! They should not just show them once in a great while or at a stupid time, such as 2am or 5am!!! They show complete garbage on the Disney Channel now! Garbage, I tell you!!!! I can't even watch anything on there with my nephews or nieces or any child! Shows and Original Disney Movies should be at least tolerable for all ages. Bring the good stuff back for other generations to enjoy!

This is the same for Nickelodeon. The old was the best! 'Are You Afraid of the Dark?' 'Doug,' 'Rugrats,' 'Legends of the Hidden Temple,' 'Wild and Crazy Kids,' 'Clarissa Explains it All,' 'Pete and Pete,' 'Salute your Shorts,' and 'Hey Arnold!' What have they done with you?! Other generations should be able to see these shows instead of crap shows! From my understanding, petitions have been going around for a while pleading that they bring these shows back. A lot of people want them back! Why are they refusing to show these?! Why?!?!

Goodbye Winter Quarter: Hello Spring!

I am so excited for tomorrow! Why? Well, it will be the end of another quarter after I finish up with two courses tomorrow, which means I'll be on break real soon. I won't have to wake up early and I won't have any homework for almost two weeks. Yes!!! I'm so proud of my finance group for Portfolio Management, we ended up getting a 100% on our Investment Philosophy presentation!!! We were so prepared for that presentation and really worked together to make it the best we could. Great teamwork made us do a fantastic job!

So, what movies have I been watching lately? Bogie and Bacall films. I love these two together! I know, I know. Some of you may be thinking that the age difference is a little weird, but seriously, they looked great together:

I've been reading Lauren Bacall's autobiography, By Myself and Then Some, at the bookstore. I'm waiting for a good coupon or my next paycheck to buy it! That lady is hilarious! I end up laughing while reading it because she'll say some very funny things. I then get embarrassed because I'm in the bookstore... Then I don't care because it's funny, so I'm going to laugh. I'll be writing more on my favorite Bogie and Bacall films in a different post. Until then, be sure to check out this funny scene from The Big Sleep (1946):

Mary Poppins

So, I was watching Mary Poppins (1964) the other day. It is one of my favorite Disney films ever. I remember watching it constantly as a child along with the majority of other Disney films. However, I've just realized something. What exactly is Mary Poppins? Ok, so maybe you are laughing now, but seriously, what the heck is she!?

All right, we all know one thing for sure, that Mary Poppins is indeed a nanny. Why is the nanny able to do all this magic? Is she a good witch? She does have a carpet bag, she's able to have conversations with dogs, she fly, she can transport herself and others into paintings, and that's just naming some of the things she can do. A witch just doesn't make sense though, not in a Disney sense at least, seeing as all the witches in Disney are portrayed as hideous and terribly evil women. Mary Poppins does not fit this.

Then, is she a guardian angel sort of figure? She does come to the children when she realizes that they are in great need of a good nanny or guardian in general. Let's face it, the Banks kids are terribly neglected by their parents. At the beginning, the father seems to find them only as a great annoyance. His work is his life and he doesn't seem to think he should spend time with his children. Although, he really is concerned that the children are being properly cared for by someone. The mother is neglectful as well, for she is much too concerned about her women's rights movement. She's not cruel to the children when she sees them and doesn't find them to be a great annoyance. She listens to them once in a while, but she mostly she just ignores them. Mary Poppins must be their guardian angel!

My top three favorite scenes of this film include: (1) 'Step in Time,' (2) the entire animated sequence, and (3) is a tie between the 'Spoonful of Sugar' and the 'Feed the Birds' scenes. 'Step in Time' has a spectacular amount of choreographed dancing. It is impressive and I love watching it! I also love how they run all over the roofs of houses and are forced into the Banks' chimney after those weirdoes with the house with the boat thing on it blast the fireworks at them. I find it hilarious that they trash that house and no one seems to care except for the father.

Disney animation is always a great thing to watch. I love this entire painting world in Mary Poppins because I think it's so pretty! The pastels used and the animation effects in general are fantastic. Also, the interactions with the actors and the animated world is fun to watch. Bert is absolutely glorious during the scene with the penguins! I also love the little romance between Bert and Mary Poppins. Of course, you can't forget the carousel horses and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

The 'Spoonful of Sugar' scene is always fun to watch! Who wouldn't want to pick up a room by snapping his or her fingers?! It'd be awesome! Also, I just read the other day that Julie Andrews actually did the whistling for that animatronic robin during the song. That's pretty amazing! I adore Michael Banks during this scene as well. It's so cute watching him try and try to snap his fingers!

The 'Feed the Birds' scene always gets me. I think that the song is beautiful. Also, I love the lesson that the children are learning at this point in time. Mainly, sometimes there are people who cannot see past the end of their noses, which is very true. Also, giving is much better than investing in something for your own benefit. Beautiful scene.

Random Post

I've decided that Philosophy brand shampoo, shower gel, and bubble bath may be one of the best creations ever! I am extremely busy with school right now, mainly with having finals coming up. I actually have a final group presentation tomorrow in one of my finance courses. It is focused on our investment philosophy, which happens to follow along Warren Buffett's philosophy. This basically means that we support looking at the intrinsic value of stocks when making an investment, which would mean that we look at the future value of the stock. We are looking at the future value from a long-term standpoint. Of course, no one is able to predict the future with 100% accuracy, but the point of an intrinsic value is that it is subjective. I'll stop talking about this now.

Anyway, back to the brand Philosophy. In order to relax after doing a bunch of schoolwork (I'm in my final year of receiving my Bachelor of Science in Finance), part-time job, working out, making meals, and life in general, I enjoy soaking in a hot bathtub reading a book. It minimizes my stress and I swear it helps me prepare better for exams, presentations, and my schedule. Philosophy comes in many different types of scents and it isn't limited to just shampoo, shower gel, and bubble bath. There are moisturizers, lip care products, and makeup kits. I have received two Philosophy products as gifts. Here is one of them:

The other is called Melon Daiquiri. Both products smell delicious and really make a nice bubble bath! When stress tries to consume you, it sometimes is better to take a quick break and relax. Once you relax, you can go back to all what you were working on and most likely finish it all faster and do a better job on all of it as well. Trust me!
