31 Days of Horror: Day 6: The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1993)

Never, I repeat, NEVER let a child watch this movie! I snuck and watched it when I was around 5 or 6 years old when my grandma was taking care of me. I was at her neighbor's house and the kids were around my age. We saw the tape lying around and decided that we had to find out what all the fuss was about. I still remember going to the movie theater around the time this movie was being released. They had huge dinosaur heads and dinosaurs hanging from the ceiling with a tropical forest! Who wouldn't remember something that awesome?

We were all sitting there, enjoying the movie a lot at first. It wasn't until the T-Rex came along and was ripping up the Jurassic Park jeep that we all freaked out, but we couldn't stop watching! No, we continued to watch, despite being petrified. I'm still not sure where the kids' parents were when we were watching this movie. If they were at home, we would have scared the hell out of them the way we were screaming!

I remember how scared I was to go to sleep after watching that movie. I was convinced that a T-Rex was going to come around and tear the roof off of my house! I can still imagine it, seeing a glowing T-Rex eye in my window, it's sharp teeth and massive head! So scary!

The scene with the raptors really got to me, too. Together, they're equally as frightening as the T-Rex. Just look at the speed those raptors have when they jump! They've got huge spiky claws that could easily rip you to shreds! Keep away, raptors, keep away!

31 Days of Horror: Day 5: Cat People (1942)

I watched a strange movie the other day, it was called Cat People. It gave me the weirdest dream about my parents being animal hoarders, sick! I'm not sure which was more messed up. They might have been tied.

Cat People focuses on the marriage between an American man and a Serbian woman. He meets the woman when she as it the zoo sketching panthers. He instantly falls for her and the two quickly get married. This guy doesn't even know that the woman he has married will never kiss him, due to her fear of becoming an evil cat if she does so. Of course, being married, the man expects some things to occur and now that he knows kissing is out of the picture, so is basically everything else. However, the woman insists that it's not because she's an extreme prude, it's because of a Serbian curse. The curse will turn her into a bloodthirsty panther if kisses a man.

Of course, the woman seems to be coming up with some weird explanations for not wanting to be with her new husband. This leads to the man falling for another woman, which causes his wife to become a bit upset. Since she is upset, she becomes a bit mental and decides to follow her husband's supposed lover. Eventually, everyone starts to realize that the Serbian woman is a cuckcoo-boo. Is it her fault though?

This movie gave me a good laugh at first, until it gave me a psychotic nightmare about hoarding. Becoming a bloodthirsty cat is nothing to joke about! It's terrible! Watch this during the hour of the wolf (witching hour) and I assure you, it will freak you out!

31 Days of Halloween: Day 4: Heathers (1988)

Heathers is like Mean Girls with a twist of something horrific and awesomely terrible. I love witty black comedies. I recently discovered Heathers, having barely been alive when it was first released. I think it was released the same month that I was born into this world. Oh, how I have missed out over the years. Heathers is blissfully bitchy, with stellar comebacks. It's a spectacular comedy turned into an insane nightmare.

Heather number one and JD are what make this movie frightening. Imagine the meanest person you know and multiply it by infinity, that is Heather Chandler, the most popular girl in school. Think of James Dean mixed with a bit of River Phoenix and the Joker, that is JD. Both have very different perceptions of what life is meant to be about, but each opinion is terrifying.

Heather Chandler thinks life is about being the most powerful person in the room. In order to be the most powerful, you must be the most conniving and brutally mean person on the planet. Bullying is power! If you do not bully people for no reason, then you are a loser. You most certainly will NOT be popular, ever! However, if you follow everything she says, then you are SO very. Boo, Heather, boo! You are not very! I am impressed by your clothing and the amount of the profanity you use in the majority of your sentences.

Veronica is my favorite character in the film. She is tied into both the Heather world and the JD world. I understand the appeal of the JD world. He is mysterious, brilliant, and more about making the world a better place. However, his idea of making the world a better place is killing people that make it seem a bit worse. Clearly, that is a psychotic thinking process. Why do sociopaths have to be so good looking? It's just not fair.

I could watch Heathers every single day and not get sick of it. It is funny, it is weird, and the characters are so intriguing. JD ended up terrifying me by the end of the movie. I felt ashamed for finding him so attractive! Of course, the movie is not meant to be taken seriously. It truly is a black comedy and focused on dark, witty humor. The quotes are very memorable, but some are not meant to be written in a blog in case children happen to be reading it. Check out Heathers to find out what I'm talking about! You probably won't regret it!

31 Days of Horror: Day 3: Jumanji (1995)

Jumanji, successfully scaring little kids and adults since its release. I have some friends who still will not watch this movie due to the nightmares it gave them. I've been a fan of Jumanji since I watched it in the theater for the first time in 1995. It scared me, but like Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Goosebumps, I loved it!

The scariest scene in the movie is when young Alan gets sucked into the game and is forced to live in the jungle. The look of terror on his face and his friend Sarah's face is enough to make this freaky. However, they go even further with the scare factor by adding shrilling screams and bats. I've seen some bats in the house before and one bat is scary enough, believe me.

Bats like to make little squeaky sounds when they fly around, they also like to find a place where they can sleep hanging upside down. There was a bat that flew into my bathroom while my family and I were all sleeping. It was hanging upside down on the shower bar. I told my family that I had heard a bat, but they didn't believe me. My brother got the surprise of his life when he walked into the shower that day. He ran out of there as fast as he could, screaming. I was rolling on the ground laughing at him. I did warn him that I heard a bat in the house. No one ever seems to believe little kids when they claim something that you're not expecting to happen. Kids and their overactive imaginations!

Another part that still freaks me out is when the tsunami hits inside of the house. There is an animatronic alligator that shows up in the water. Animatronic monsters scare me! Can you imagine if one broke? I can imagine it happening, for example, the Jaws ride at Universal Studios has animatronic sharks in the water. Let's say one of them breaks, its wires go haywire, and it can't stop chomping its teeth! Same thing could happen to that animatronic alligator! That's really scary! Get away animatronics!

Jumanji is awesome. To get the full experience of the horror, I recommend watching this with a kid or someone who grew up in the 90's. I can assure you, there are those who grew up in the 90's that are still terrified of this movie. Better yet, have the Jumanji game in your house and let it be visible while you're watching the movie.

31 Days of Horror: Day 2: Batoru rowaiaru (Battle Royale, 2000)

I love Battle Royale! It's a dystopian horror-action-thriller that does everything right. Once it starts, it doesn't lollygag around, waiting to get to the nitty-gritty of the story. It throws you in head first, forcing you right into the psychological horror these kids are about to go through. 

Battle Royale is set in futuristic Japan. The kids' behavior has a been a bit out of control and the government thinks it's time to...intervene. In order to do this, they capture a ninth-grade class, knock them out, and when they come to, they're expected to fight each other to the death. The last student remaining is the one who will be able to leave the island. 

The death scenes in this film are killer. It looks a bit like stage blood that you'd see in a theatrical production, like Sweeney Todd. When someone get's hit in the head or the neck, that blood sprays and squirts all over the place! It's pretty awesome!

The scariest villain in the film is the rebel guy. Dressed in a black suit with hair all spiked up; he's cool, he's handsome, he's deadly! 

This film isn't all about gore and murder. It also has a nice little love story and a story of friendship. It's spectacular all the way around. I want to watch it again right now!

31 Days of Horror: Day 1: Freaks (1932)

Yes, the best month of the year has begun!!! Let the horror commence! Freaks (1932) is one of the strangest horror movies I've ever watched. It's not terrifying because of the circus performers, which might be surprising to some of you who know that I'm afraid of the circus. All because of having to watch circus freak videos in honors biology class every single day for about a week. The videos were actually titled 'Circus Freaks.' My biology teacher was a weirdo. I only got freaked out from the guy that purposely slit his tongue and eyes to look like a snake. He also had implants in his face that he tattooed. Anyway, what frightens me with Freaks is how absolutely horrible and monstrous some people can be.

Freaks is about a traveling circus group. The leader of the group, Hans, falls in love with a trapeze artist, Cleopatra. He thinks she's the most beautiful woman that he has ever seen and that she is perfectly sweet. However, we quickly learn that Cleopatra is anything but sweet and Hans love is one-sided. Cleopatra is a cruel, evil woman who only pretends to love Hans because she knows that he has money. However, she plans on seducing Hans, marrying him, and then killing him so that she can escape with her boyfriend with all of the inheritance money.

Some of Hans' friends try to tell him that Cleo isn't exactly who he thinks she is, but Hans is so blinded by love, he refuses to believe that she's anything but perfect. He decides to marry Cleopatra. During the wedding party, everyone is celebrating with tons of alcohol. Cleo becomes so drunk that she ends up letting Hans and the sideshow performers, what she really thinks of all of them. She also attempts to poison Hans, which obviously is not going to go over well with Hans or his friends. Together, the freaks decide it's time to do something to stop Cleopatra...

This is not your typical horror film. It is very strange the first time watching and it's not scary in a gory sense. I recommend it because it's different. I also think it's interesting that this was banned in the UK for 30 years.

Fall is Coming: Almost Time for HORROR

I've already have had a Pumpkin Spice and a Pumpkin Chai to put me into the mood of autumn and it's successfully given me October fever! October fever is like spring fever, but it's all about the month of October, the best month out of the year! Time to get the pumpkin decorations out, sip some apple cider, eat a delicious apple or a slice of apple crisp, and enjoy the HORROR! 

That's right, it's almost time for 31 Days of Horror, where I will attempt to post about one Horror movie a day! I'm already so excited!!!! On top of the horror movies, I might post a little something about a Haunted House that I plan on going to this year. The one that I am desperate to go to has supposedly caused people to wet their pants from fear! That might not be an appealing factor to some of you, but as a horror addict, I must see what is scaring people so badly! It has to be good!!!
